PresentationsI have spoken to audiences in Maryland, Delaware, and Southeast Pennsylvania about topics related to my book, Stealing Freedom along the Mason-Dixon Line: Thomas McCreary, the Notorious Slave Catcher from Maryland. My talks have been enthusiastically received. The events in the book occurred in the Baltimore - Wilmington - Philadelphia corridor, but they have significance for American history in the antebellum period and offer insight into the Reverse Underground Railroad and slavery disputes just before and after the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. Stealing Freedom offers a close up view of how these issues and the violence they generated affected the lives of those living near the Mason-Dixon Line. I have adjusted the emphasis of individual talks to accommodate the interest of different audiences.
I have also given talks on the Underground Railroad in the Baltimore - Wilmington - Philadelphia corridor. If you are interested my presenting a talk on topics in this book or on the Underground Railroad in this region, or if you have any questions or comments, please use the contact form, or if you prefer more space to email me, click here. In addition to speaking at the dedication of the Pennsylvania historical marker commemorating the significance of the kidnapping and rescue of the Parker sisters, I have recently presented talks on the slave catching and kidnapping issue, and on the Underground Railroad, at the following places:
